What, if anything, would you guys do with this little rustic display shelf?
Besides leaving it to be a spider- and sidewalk chalk-magnet and convenient kids' trash holder, of course. Because I've gone that route already and, frankly, it's not working for me.
I'm thinking maybe whitewash. Like:

But I'm afraid the grain on my little shelving unit there is too coarse to make the whitewash "work," you know? I guess, really, there's not much way to go but up. Which is an edited version of what I told myself just last night after accidentally killing off a bunch of our raspberry starts.

Restain it a color. The wood looks really rough & a colored stain might soak up nicely.

ReplyDeleteThat's genius, Julie. Dang. You're going to die when you see what happened to it. I was whitewashing something else and went to help Violet and came back to find Layla using the whitewash on this thing. Looks so terrible. I'm going to have to get creative on this one...
DeleteI was thinking about a small shelf I have and was considering an overall antique silvery look. Not sure how metallic would work for you, but I always love looking at designers who add a metallic flash to their designs.
ReplyDeleteOoh, now that's something I hadn't thought of. Metallic + rustic would be unexpected, and I do love ironic whimsy in decor sometimes. Thanks for the thought...love the idea.
